Choledocholithiasis: A Stone in the Common Bile Duct (Choledochus)

If your report shows choledocholithiasis or a dilated common bile duct, this matters.

What the choledochus is

The common bile duct (choledochus) is the main channel carrying bile from the liver and gallbladder to the intestine — the biliary "pipe".

What choledocholithiasis is

It is a stone inside the common bile duct. When it obstructs, the duct looks dilated on ultrasound.

Why it matters

An obstructed duct can cause jaundice (yellowing) and pain and needs prompt evaluation. It is a finding radiologists look for closely.

The method's view

Imaging shows the anatomy of bile flow in real time — information blood alone cannot give.
